Often called frisee, this leafy green is considered by some to be a culinary treasure. This classic French frisee endive forms a heart of finely cut and frilly leaves. Unlike other greens it can withstand a hot oil dressing, or heat on the grill. Also, with a mildly bitter taste it can be cooked whole and makes great salads. Growers often bundle up the outer leaves to a point above the plant and hold it in place with an elastic. This cuts off sunlight to the centre rossette, creating an interior that is blanched and much sweeter and tender than the outer leaves. Easy to grow and delicious. 65 Days
